Roller derby originated in the United States in the 1930s and has a rich history,
although the emphasis had long been more on the show element than the sport itself.
Roller derby had all but died out after the 1970s, until its revival in Austin, Texas in 2001.
Since then the sport has evolved and spread from the USA to the rest of the world.
Rockcity Rollers was founded in 2010 when a former Texas Rollergirl living in Eindhoven decided the time was right to start a league here. Through shoutouts on social media and training with another Dutch league she learned that she wasn’t the only one interested in bringing the sport to Eindhoven, and a group began to form to make this ambition a reality.
The first opportunity for these women to skate together and meet with each other and friends they had recruited was on 13 July, 2010 at a city park, where Rockcity Rollers was born. Within a short time the city park was exchanged for R.C. Lichtstad and the Rockcity Rollers, working together in the DIY-spirit of modern, flat-track roller derby, began to take shape.
Over the years and with a passion for the sport, strong team spirit and a lot of hard work it has grown into the league (club) we know today. A league with a competitive focus, in which everyone can improve at their own pace. Of course there is always plenty of room for fun and team building!
This is all possible because we really believe in the 'for the skaters, by the skaters' mentality. The league is run entirely by its members and volunteers. This is what makes the league by and for everyone! Would you like to contribute to the club and/or get to know your teammates better? Then this is awonderful opportunity!
This is Rockcity's main and
WFTDA-sanctioned team.

of flat track roller derby. We've been a member since 2016. We are also part of the: Dutch roller derby association
(DRDA), check there website for more information.
Inclusivity [Gender policy]
Rockcity Rollers is an inclusive league: we welcome skaters of all genders, ages, and backgrounds to our training.
Skaters of all genders can join our rookie program, train with the team, and participate in (all-gender) scrimmages.
However, only skaters who identify with the WTFDA's gender policy can participate in WFTDA-sanctioned games.
The WFTDA gender policy states the following: "An individual who identifies as a trans woman, intersex woman,
and/or gender expansive may skate with a WFTDA charter team if women’s flat track roller derby is the version and
composition of roller derby with which they most closely identify." For definitions of the terms 'transgender',
'intersex', and 'gender-expansive' as used in the policy, please read the WFTDA gender statement in full on their website.
These guidelines are a work in progress as we work towards making our club a safe space for everyone.
